Happiness Through Horses is located in Fort Lupton, Colorado. Visit details, directions, and arrival instructions will be provided when your program, event, volunteer shift, or appointment is confirmed.

Because Happiness Through Horses is an active working ranch and our programs are scheduled around the care of our animals, visits must be arranged in advance. Please register for a scheduled program or contact us before coming to the ranch.

Please dress for an outdoor ranch environment and changing Colorado weather.

Closed-toe shoes are required. Boots, sturdy walking shoes, or athletic shoes are recommended. Comfortable clothing, long pants, sunscreen, hats, and layers are also encouraged.

Please do not wear sandals, flip-flops, high heels, or other footwear that may be unsafe around animals or uneven ground.

Depending on the activity and weather, you may wish to bring:

  • A refillable water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • A hat
  • Weather-appropriate layers
  • Work gloves for volunteer or service activities

Any additional items needed for a specific program will be included in your registration information.

The ranch includes natural, uneven terrain, gravel, dirt, grass, and working animal areas. We want to make participation as welcoming as possible. Please contact us before your visit to discuss mobility needs, accessibility considerations, or other accommodations.

Programs and activities may be adjusted, postponed, or canceled because of extreme heat or cold, lightning, high winds, snow, poor road conditions, or other safety concerns.

When possible, registered participants will be contacted directly if plans change. Please check your email and messages before leaving for the ranch when weather conditions are uncertain.

Happiness Through Horses offers programs and experiences centered on mentorship, leadership development, animal stewardship, service, gardening, community connection, and meaningful time at the ranch.

Offerings may include youth programs, family ranch days, guided ranch connection experiences, senior activities, volunteer opportunities, service projects, seasonal events, and community partnerships.

Program availability may change throughout the year.

Most Happiness Through Horses programs are ground-based and focus on safe interaction, connection, learning, responsibility, and care of the animals.

Riding lessons are not included unless a particular program specifically states otherwise.

Coaching and mentoring are central to many of the programs offered at Happiness Through Horses. Through primarily ground-based experiences with horses, sanctuary animals, mentors, and the ranch environment, participants are supported as they build confidence, strengthen self-leadership, improve communication and decision-making skills, and grow through meaningful relationships. HTH is not a traditional riding facility, and riding lessons are not included unless specifically noted.

No previous horse or ranch experience is required. Staff and trained volunteers will explain expectations and help participants learn how to behave safely and respectfully around the animals.

Participants should always follow the directions of HTH staff and remain within designated areas.

Happiness Through Horses provides mentoring, leadership, animal connection, service, and community-based ranch experiences.

Unless specifically identified otherwise, our programs are not psychotherapy, medical treatment, or clinical mental-health services. However, many people find that peaceful time outdoors and positive interaction with animals can provide comfort, connection, confidence, and encouragement.

Age requirements vary by program. Some programs are designed specifically for children or teens, while others welcome adults, seniors, caregivers, families, or small groups.

Please review the individual program description or contact us before registering if you are unsure whether an activity is appropriate for you or your child.

Children must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult unless they are participating in a scheduled youth program in which HTH has specifically assumed supervision.

Parents and guardians remain responsible for children outside of the scheduled program area and program time.

Advance registration is required for most programs, volunteer activities, and ranch visits. This helps us prepare appropriate staffing, supplies, animal activities, and safety support.

Space may be limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Program fees and contribution requests vary depending on the activity. Some experiences may have a registration fee, while others may be offered with a suggested or optional contribution.

Current information will be included with each program or event announcement. We work to keep ranch experiences as accessible as possible while supporting the care of our animals and the cost of operating our programs.

Yes. Each participant, volunteer, or visitor taking part in a ranch activity must complete the applicable Happiness Through Horses release and waiver before participating.

A parent or legal guardian must sign for a participant who is under 18.

Please do not feed, pet, enter an enclosure with, or approach any animal unless an HTH staff member has given permission and is providing direction.

Our animals have individual dietary, medical, and personal needs. Even friendly animals can react unexpectedly. Following staff instructions protects both our visitors and the animals.

Children should remain with their supervising adult or program leader and use calm voices and movements around the animals.

Running, chasing animals, climbing on gates or fences, entering animal enclosures, and reaching through fencing are not permitted.

Please ask before bringing treats or other food items for the horses and farm animals. Some animals have dietary restrictions or medical needs, so all treats must be approved by an HTH team member before they are offered.

For the safety of our animals, visitors, and your pet, please leave pets at home unless prior approval has been provided.

Those who use a trained service animal should contact HTH before visiting so we can discuss safe access around livestock and program animals.

Personal photographs may be permitted during some visits and events. Please ask before photographing program participants, children, volunteers, or individuals outside your own family.Do not enter restricted areas or approach an animal to obtain a photograph. Please also respect any photo restrictions announced by staff.

Volunteer opportunities may include animal and ranch care, gardening, events, administrative support, mentoring, fundraising, communications, and other projects.

Volunteers may be asked to complete an application, liability waiver, orientation, and training. Roles involving youth or other vulnerable participants may also require additional screening or a background check.

Group opportunities may be available for families, businesses, schools, service organizations, and community partners.
